ACHIEVER

Kirsten Marsh, 18, received a number of awards at her school's Matric Honours Evening, in October, 2003.

She received trophies for the highest marks in her grade for English and for History.

The Creative Writing trophy was awarded to her for finishing in the top 100 in the country in the De Beer's English Olympiad.  She was examined in both poetry and prose on the topic 'Conflict and Resolution in South Africa'

She received the Dux Cultural trophy for her contribution to school drama.  She wrote, directed and acted in the play 'Survivor Jo'burg' as part of the school's drama festival.  For the same play she was awarded a diploma and gold medal by the Kempton Park Eisteddfod.

Kirsten passed matric with distinctions in English, History and Afrikaans, and has since moved to Glasgow, Scotland.  Before her departure she attended the Cyrildene and Hope Christian Fellowship congregations of the Worldwide Church of God, where she took an active part in youth leadership. 

She plans to study journalism in the future.

BIBLE SOCIETY WALK

Mrs. Marjory Quirk, aged 84, of the Table View Christian Church, raised R400.00 plus for the South African Bible Society, by walking 4 kilometers. The Senior Citizens of Vue du Cap Retirement Center take part in this annual event to raise money to pay for Bibles for the underprivileged.  Each Bible printed and delivered to the underprivileged costs R19.00. She received a medal for collecting the second largest amount of money.

 

Birth

Samuel Johan Kruger was born in Calgary, Canada on the 27th November, 2003 (to Jonty and Kendra). First Kruger Boy for Johan and Colleen of the Table View Church, South Africa. He weighed 3.5 kilograms.  This is our sixth grandchild.

 

 

OBITUARY

Abner Solomon Somzana died on 4 October 2003 at the ageof 75. He suffered from an illness that began by a mild stroke in 2002, and which became severe with other complications until his death.

Abner was baptized in Durban in 1964 and ordained as an elder in 1997. He took care of WCG members in the areas bordering KwaZulu Natal - Lusikisiki, Bizana, Flagstaff and Maluti as well as sharing some services with the Lusaka congregation. His long-time close friend and former elder, Patrick Mbokodi spoke on his life in the church. Thomas Masela, pastor of the Umtata congregation, gave the message for the occasion.

He is survived by 3 daughters, 2 sons, 11 grandchildren and 3 sisters. He will be sadly missed by all.
