LETTER FROM KENYA
Dear
Editors,
Thanks for the wonderful work of keeping us in touch with many WCG
congregations in Africa and the world.
In particular, The November/December 2002 edition carried an amazing
and wonderful article by Angela Whittaker of the Stoke-on-Trent
congregation about the Tamsin sisters who turned their summer walk
into a fund raiser for the Kangemi refugee church in Kenya. This is a
wonderful work of love which only the heavenly father can repay. Since
I pastor this church, I am touched deeply for such outpouring of love
and concern for people these girls have never seen, only heard of.
As the Pastor on the ground, almost every day of the week is a step of
faith. As early as 6:00 in the morning, members visit me in hope of
finding food or some other pressing need like a sick child, prayer
etc. As I leave for work every morning, I spend a restless day,
reflecting and thinking of how to assist. When I arrive home sometimes
as late as 9:00 in the evening, other members visit for similar needs.
But God has in his grace, kept us going through these difficult times.
Kangemi is generally a poor area within the city of Nairobi. Here,
average income per month for working families is about USD 30.00. For
the refugees, a small room is shared sometimes between two families.
Many have spent nights out in the cold, and yet none of them
have been taken ill.
Our grateful thanks to Rosalind and Tamsin for the £345 pounds which
we have received by faith. Also a big thank you for those who
contributed and continue to contribute towards helping the Kangemi
members. Your gifts of clothing, money, prayers and love are highly
appreciated.
Pastor James Omuhaka
