Worldwide Church of God Mission Statement

As time has passed in the transformation of our church, our mission continues to come more clearly into focus. We, therefore have produced the following new mission statement of the Worldwide Church of God. This statement has been produced with the input of our headquarters’ leadership team, the denominational doctrinal committee, our international Regional Directors, and our District Superintendents in the U.S. It was our desire to produce a statement that reflected our current understanding of the mission of the church and one that would reflect a worldwide overview.

The mission Jesus gave to his disciples as his final command prior to his ascension was, “Make disciples.” This is the Great Commission given to the Church, the Body of Christ. The Worldwide Church of God, as a denomination within the Body of Christ echoes the Great Commission in its mission statement in terms easily translated and understood by its member congregations throughout the world. Simply put, we make disciples (devoted and fully trained followers of Jesus) by living out the love and concern that Jesus has for humanity and by sharing the good news of grace and salvation that God makes available through Jesus Christ. We seek to fulfil this mission in terms of key result areas that seek those who don’t know Jesus as Saviour, that build up the believers in Christ-likeness, and that equip them to reach out to non-believers.

Each local congregation of the Worldwide Church of God should develop its own mission statement and key result areas within the framework of the denomination’s mission. The mission of the local congregation will reflect the Great Commission and the mission of the denomination. However, the local mission will be more specific and will reflect the resources of the congregation and the needs of the communities within its sphere of influence.

May God bless us as a denomination and in our local congregations as we seek his vision and mission for us and as we co-minister with him in fulfilling the Great Commission.

In Christ’s service,

Joseph Tkach

Mission Statement

“Living and sharing the gospel”

The Worldwide Church of God is committed to living and sharing the good news of what God has done through Jesus Christ.

The church seeks to fulfil this mission by:

  • Building healthy, Chris-centred congregations that are sanctuaries of worship, friendship and nurturing pastoral care.
  • Providing sound biblical teaching through congregations, media, and personal outreach in relevant, meaningful forms for people of diverse backgrounds and ages.
  • Expressing the love of God to all through the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
  • Equipping people for Christian service so that the gospel can be known, understood, and experienced.
  • Sharing in the work of the gospel with the broader Christian community, acknowledging that we can learn from one another and that Christ’s love goes beyond denominational boundaries.

Summary of our Christian Faith

We believe:

  • In one holy, loving, all-powerful, and gracious Creator God who exists in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • That the Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God, fully authoritative for all matters of faith and practice.
  • That Jesus Christ will come again to judge the living and the dead and to reign over all things.
  • In the Holy Spirit, who brings sinners to repentance, who gives eternal life to believers, and who lives in them to conform them to the image of Jesus Christ.
  • That Christians should gather in regular fellowship and live lives of faith that make evident the good news that humans enter the Kingdom of God by putting their trust in Jesus Christ.
  • In the spiritual unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • That salvation comes not by works, but only by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
  • In the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.
