GHANA WOMEN'S RETREAT 2003
By Monica Sogbo (Co-ordinator
of Womens’ Ministry in Ghana)
An
Easter week-end Retreat themed "Be ready for Christ" took place at our
camp site in Kutunse located 20 km north of Accra from Friday 18th
through Monday 21st April 2003.
The 68
participants were from Lome in neighbouring Togo and from the Ghana
congregations of Ho, Hohoe, Kumasi, Kutunse and Accra. We were blessed
with favourable weather. Each day started on a high note with group
morning devotions during which members made prayer requests. Worship
songs were sung, and group and individual prayers were said. A vibrant
praise and worship session was held twice each day to keep those
attending on their feet, dancing and waving handkerchiefs to the glory
of God.
Our guest
speaker, Mrs Shirley Henderson, spoke on "Living a Worthy Life - The
Servant Principle." She addressed the problem of serving without
being acknowledged or given recognition - a situation in which most
people cannot thrive. She encouraged us to realize that the
recognition given by Jesus Christ is the best. Jesus will never
overlook our service.
During one
afternoon session we were treated to a worship dance in which we were
encouraged to make gestures that would communicate spiritual messages
to God. The steps and movements were carried into the praise session
the next day, and it was interesting to watch how each person
communicated ideas in a song through gestures. The use of flags,
ribbons and a combination of drama and movement was spectacular.
Mrs Henderson
closed the Retreat by sharing her personal experiences on meditation.
She taught us how to read the Scriptures out loud and to meditate on
them word by word by closing our eyes and concentrating on the each
word or idea. She also shared some moments from her life in a large
family of eight children.
Ghana Women's
Ministry Retreat 2003 was a great opportunity for renewing old
friendships. Regularly, groups of women sat under the many shade trees
sharing ideas. There was much laughter and good Christian fellowship
It was
indeed a time for connecting and bonding as we prepare for Christ.
