Umtata Church Busy as Year Ends

 By Thomas Masela

Time seems to be flying here in the Eastern Cape, (South Africa). Fifty-two weekends were just too short to schedule all the activities and tasks we had hoped to during 2002.

Here are a few very special events and achievements.

Firstly, two very courageous and enthusiastic mothers, both over 50 years old, rolled up their sleeves and became professional nurses early in the year. Patience Keswa and Rose Ndlela both left their families for the full duration of their studies. The graduation ceremony was held on 7 December 2002.

Overwhelmed with joy are three newly baptized members, Mabuya and Primrose Mnguni, and Miss Noma-lungisa Mokwana, all baptized on 14 September 2002 by pastor Thomas Masela.

The Umtata Youth (Bible Talk Group) organised a barbeque for the whole church on September 15 at a member’s home. This event was  particularly enjoyed by the young children.

On another occasion, the little ones were given the opportunity to organise their own church service. They memorised a complete recitation account of the birth of Jesus Christ, which included as much singing as their vocal chords would allow.
