Cars-in-the-Park Fund Raiser
By Dawid Maree
An annual event takes place in Pretoria, South Africa, where hundreds of different types of cars are displayed, from Model-T Fords to the most sophisticated Italian sports cars. It is attended by an estimated 20 000 people.
Four stands were booked at this event by the Sandringham (Johannesburg) Church and Spokespersons Club members, as well as the Youthworx and Pretoria church members for the purpose of fundraising.
The cold Highveld morning of Sunday August 1 st quickly warmed up with the cheerful greetings of friends and church members. There was a frenzy of activity as we set up gas cookers, tables, etc. We had a common goal, and together we were determined to make this work.
A number of volunteers worked from 6am to 5pm, making pancakes and producing all kinds of refreshments. At the end of the day we had made about 1600 pancakes and 800 boerewors rolls. The event was extremely successful in raising funds both for Summer Camp and the Pretoria congregation. Everyone had a great time, and we grew closer together as brethren, as we volunteered our time to serve others.
