Guyana Convention 2007
Goraiah Papayya

The Annual Convention was held again at the Diocesan Youth Center, Subryanville, Georgetown. 31 persons met for Praise and Worship everyday from 28th September to 1st October, 2007.

Our theme for the conference was: Our Invitation To Know God Better.

After praise and worship on the first day, Aubrey Williams spoke on Taking Christian Responsibility To Train Oneself. He pointed out that as we relate to Christ and he relates to us we change. We compare/evaluate ourselves with Christ.

The second day Goraiah Papayya encouraged the brethren to Listen Or Thy Tongue Will Keep Thee Deaf, admonishing us to be effective listeners, to have a genuine desire to listen, requiring time and patience, to listen without judgment. When we listen to others with compassion we spend our time learning. We must listen to God’s Word and do what it says. He then showed a video from the California conference entitled: “Foundations of Worldwide Church of God Doctrines” and showed a few of Mr. Tkach’s Speaking of Life videos.

Services on the third day was planned and conducted by eight youths. They did the prayers, led songs one at a time, did an interpretive dance, read scriptures and reflected on them, asked questions to the adults present e.g. How would you (parents) react if your child comes to you and admits he has committed a crime e.g stealing. One youth did an interactive session and closed with a prayer. Everyone enjoyed lunch together afterwards.

The last day was communion day. Praise and worship was followed by a message from Goraiah Papayya entitled Hear His Invitation And Get To Know Him Better. He explains that the only way to truly know God is through his son, Jesus Christ; that it is essential to know God who sent Jesus into the world and Jesus whom he sent into the world and to obey Jesus’ mission to us to go into the world. The ministry of Jesus was an invitation to an open, spontaneous relationship: the kind of open relationship that love produces. Such a relationship does not limit itself only to special times. Brethren were then invited to partake of the Lord’s Supper as an invitation to come together to know Him better and take it as an expression of their faith in Christ.
