jay r, now that you know the legalities, i would suggest nga hinay-hinay lang and PRAY FOR THAT RELATIONSHIP. For sure, when someone in the family finds out about it, they will get hurt. Your parents and her parents will not understand right away even though you would explain that it is legally ok. Since you both are not ready for marriage, reflect on your relationship. Avoid temptations. Making a sinful mistake like pregnancy (because of pre-marital sex) will not be an answer to your problem. You are not the only one who experience this (relative boy-girl relationship). Believe me, i know a lot who gone through this and some made mistakes so that their family will be forced to accept it. At the end they still faced consequences.
Think on your ate adelle's advise. Does this relationship please God? If you are not ready for marriage then think of pastor len's advise...Give space with each other. TO Jay R: Legalities regarding to your situation. First degree and second degree relatives are prohibited to be married. However, these degrees are not the same as we normally thought.
By law, the First degree relatives are your father,mother, brother or sister. Second degree relatives would fall to your parents brother or sister ( uncle and aunt) and their children (first degree cousins).
With your situation, your gf is your cousin's child which falls to third degree. therefore you can marry her if you wish someday ( not today since she is still so young).
I know all these since my cousin married her uncle. Mike Arroyo ( President's son) married his second degree cousin. Unfortunately, not everyone can understand to your situation since our culture has a close family bond..
This information is not para consintehon mo ha. I still believe that we wait for the right timing that God will give us. Sakto si sir len, she is still young, let her concentrate to her studies first and enjoy life while still young. --sarah

From what I can gather on the internet, some say there is an adverse effect on the children produced by the union of close relatives like cousins. Some say it's not true. Also, society seems to discourage such a union and I think it's not allowed in some religious groups. In our Philippine society and culture, it doesn't seem to be acceptable. That is why you are bothered and your relationship is a "secret." Otherwise, you would not be asking it here.
Also, at age 18, I think that she should concentrate first on her studies and not think about boyfriend-girlfriend relationship. Give her some space. Give her a chance to think it over. If you're still studying at age 21, concentrate first on finishing your studies too. "Cool off" and give yourself some time to also think it over. I don't think you're at your best time to think about marriage. Hope this helps.
