Melody Erin Garbarino, born Dec. 1, first daughter and second child of Doug and Brianna (Lake) Garbarino, of Clackamas, OR.

Graduation

Don Engle, pastor in Wichita, KS (right), completed his Master of Arts in Ministry degree Dec. 14, from the graduate school of the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.

Anniversaries

Thomas and Zadie Conklin will celebrate their 40th anniversary on April 7. They were married in Ozark, AL, after Thomas came back from Vietnam; he served in the Army until 1971. They attended the church in Kalamazoo, MI, from 1976 to 1989, and have been in the church in Indianapolis, IN, since 1990. They have two children and six grandchildren. Thomas serves in the Indiana Guard Reserve as a volunteer.

Erv and Irene Wright celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 29. Following church services on October 1, they renewed their wedding vows and had a reception. They have been members of WCG since 1965, and attend Community Christian Fellowship in Houston, TX. They are the parents of four children: Liz (and Gary) Eads, Bob, Phyllis (deceased), and Mark (and Judy), and three grandchildren: Sabrina, Brandon, and Karyn.

Birthday

Christina Ward celebrated her 94th birthday on Dec. 24 with her family. Mrs. Ward and her late husband, Fred, started attending in Tacoma, WA and were members of the Seattle church when it started. Mrs. Ward has been a joy and a blessing to all of those who know her and especially those of us in the Everett and Seattle/Bellevue, WA, churches.

Obituaries

Albert Buehler, Sr., of North Babylon, NY, passed away of cancer on Dec. 18, 2006. He was the father of Albert, Robert, Peter and Edward, former spouse of Theresa, father-in-law of Cathy, brother of Dolly, cherished grandfather of four grandsons and one granddaughter, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a 25-year member of WCG.

Gary John Eads, 57, of LaPorte, TX, died at home on Feb. 22, 2007. A private family memorial service, officiated by Pastor Mark Mounts, was held at home that evening. An open house was held Feb. 25. Gary was born Aug. 24, 1949 in Clinton, IA, to Ruth Josephine Bradley Eads and Asa Raymond Eads. He was married to Elizabeth R. Wright Oct. 29, 1978. He went to grade school in Albany, IL, and high school in Fulton, IA, graduated from Eastern Iowa Community College in 1970, and Ambassador College, Pasadena, CA, in 1978. Gary was a member of the Worldwide Church of God since the early 1970s. He attended Community Christian Fellowship in the Houston area.

Surviving are his wife, daughters Sabrina and Karyn, and son Brandon, LaPorte, TX; one brother, Ernest (Carol), Fulton, IL; one sister, Carolyn (Dennis) Remrey, Clinton, IA; three brothers-in-law, Irvin (Delia) Foster, Fulton, IL; Bob Wright, Missouri City, TX; Mark (Judy) Wright, Katy, TX; mother- and father-in-law Irene and Ervin Wright, Missouri City, TX; and numerous other relatives. His parents, brothers Paul, Lawrence, and David, and sister Delia Foster preceded him in death.

Andy Graves of Albion, PA, died on Feb. 8. He had a massive stroke in June and was confined to hospitals and nursing homes since; unable to walk, talk or eat in normal ways. His daughter Donna and son-in-law Ted Johnston were with him when he died in a nursing home near Canton, OH. Andy’s funeral was held on Feb. 10 in East Springfield, PA, near the family farm where he lived and worked for over 50 years. Andy was a WCG member since 1966 and served for many years as a deacon and then for a few years as an elder. Seven years ago Andy was preceded in death by his wife Mary Graves.

Levon Gunter, 75, a longtime WCG member, died Sept. 20, 2006. He was born Mar. 22, 1931. He was the son of Effie Lucille and Felder Gunter. Levon served in the U.S. Army and was a distinguished veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Helen Gunter. He was the father of four surviving children. Daughters and sons-in-law are Evon and Hugh McAngus, Peggy and Darrell Boykin, Faye and Claudio Zorzi; son and daughter-in-law are Henry and Tressa Gunter. He was the grandfather of 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Janie Hill. He was predeceased by one brother, Leonard Gibson Gunter. Private graveside services were held Sept. 22.

Ruth T. “Dolly” (Vatick) Hayden, 83, of Hollis, NH, died Monday, Feb. 5, 2007. Dolly was born Nov. 21, 1923, in Bridgeport, Conn. She was preceded in death by two husbands, E. Francis “Al” Dolloff, and Robert N. Hayden, as well as two brothers, her twin, Leroy, and Parker, and a daughter, Cynthia Jean Dolloff. Mrs. Hayden worked on airplanes during World War II. She then worked for the telephone company. She was also a caretaker for several elderly citizens. At one time, she was a member of the National Aeronautical Association. Baptized in 1967, she was a member of the Loudon, NH, congregation of WCG, SonLight Christian Fellowship. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, C. Michael Dolloff and Sylvia Gale of Nashua; two stepsons, Robert Hayden and his wife, Helena, of Hollis, and James Hayden and his wife, Karen, of Methuen, Mass; a stepdaughter, Marjorie Smith of St. Louis; eight grandchildren, Christopher and Tammy Hayden of Hollis, Catherine and Ben Albert of Madawaska, Maine, Sarah and Ian Hayden of Methuen, Mass, Elizabeth Gale of Alexandria, Va, and Jeremy Smith of St. Louis; and three great-grandchildren, Luc Albert of Fort Kent (Madawaska), Maine, Caspian Hayden of Hollis, and Drake Smith of St. Louis.

Parle Higgins, 85, of Cordova, AL, died Aug. 18, 2006 from a massive stroke. She was a WCG member for 38 years. Parle is survived by her husband of 62 years, Hardy; one son, Larry; his wife, Jo Lynn; and three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jonathan, and Joseph. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne, who was killed in the Vietnam War. Parle was a member of Good Hope Community Church, near Cullman, AL.

Clifton “Cliff” R. Moody, 69, of Ashland, NH, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007. Cliff was born on December 20, 1937, in Plymouth, NH, the son of Daniel and Grace (Philbrick) Moody. Cliff served for a time in the U. S. Air Force. He lived in Rumney for several years before moving to Ashland five years ago. He was employed as an electrician at Plymouth State University for 20 years. Baptized on June 17, 2002, Cliff was a member of the Loudon, NH, congregation of WCG, SonLight Christian Fellowship. Cliff is survived by his wife, Carol, a son, Michael, three daughters, Nicole, Michelle & Elise.

Elsie Alice (Taylor) Walker, 88, of Marshall, MO, died Jan. 19, 2007, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. She was born June 8, 1918, in Blue Tick, MO, the daughter of Charles and Alice (Mounts) Taylor. On June 27, 1941, in Anderson, MO, she married William Henry Walker, Jr., who preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1955. Elsie was a longtime member of the WCG in Columbia, MO, and worked many years at Marshall Rehabilitation Center. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Gary Lee and Judy Walker, of Napton, MO, a son, William Alan Walker, of Sweet Springs, MO, one sister, Nelle Margaret Taylor, Sweet Springs, a sister-in-law, Katherine Walker, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery, Nelson, MO.
