Pasadena church moves out of Ambassador Auditorium

PASADENA--The Pasadena A.M. congregation moved out of the Ambassador Auditorium and into Fellowship Hall (former Ambassador College student center) March 4.

The congregation has an attendance of just more than 300.

Curtis May, district superintendent, gave a farewell sermon as the pastor and welcomed Dennis Pelley as the new pastor. Mr. Pelley and his wife, Lorraine, formerly served in Pasadena and have spent the last four years pastoring the Providence, Rhode Island, and Norwich, Connecticut, congregations.

Mr. May will continue to serve as district superintendent as well as director of the Office of Reconciliation Ministries and with Connecting and Bonding, Inc., which serves ministers' wives.

Church orphanage in Madagascar damaged by cyclone

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa-- "The church's orphanage in Antananarivo, Madagascar, was damaged by a cyclone but, thank God, it appears that the children are OK," said James Henderson, regional director for Africa.

The orphanage sustained about $3,000 worth of damage. The walls, and roof and foundation of the children's quarters were badly cracked. The river next to the orphanage overflowed and washed away part of the path to the entrance to the main building and made the adjacent bridge unstable.

Ozzie Engelbart dies of heart attack; wife injured in wreck

FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas--Ozzie Engelbart, 55, who served in the WCG ministry from 1968 to 1995, died late Friday night, March 31, when he suffered a massive heart attack as he and his wife, Tina, were driving on a freeway near Fayetteville.

His death was instantaneous, according to his brother, Guy, district superintendent in the northwest region. The car crashed into several others, and Tina suffered a broken ankle and one other person in another car had a broken wrist.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Engelbart is survived by their children and their spouses, Samantha Karen Clark and her husband, Brian, Natalie, and Ted and Leslye Engelbart; and his mother, Olga.

Glen Weber co-facilitator of Pastors Prayer Summit

32-Glen Weber.jpg (7133 bytes)SPOKANE, Washington--Glen Weber, pastor of the congregations in the Inland Northwest, was co-facilitator for the North Idaho-Northeast Washington Pastors Prayer Summit, Feb. 28 to March 2.

International Renewal Ministries (IRM) of Multnomah Bible College in Portland, Oregon, began this practice more than 10 years ago by calling pastors together for four days of prayer in what are now called Pastors Prayer Summits.

IRM asked Mr. Weber to be co-facilitator along with the Steve Hall, Washington representative for IRM. Thirty-three pastors attended the summit.

A summit is designed to have two or three facilitators who come with "no agenda except to seek the face of the Lord." Pastors spend four days in worship, prayer, meditation and seeking the face of God.

Hawaii to be site of four-day celebration

Hawaii will be the site of a four-day celebration this fall, with Neil Earle, pastor of the Glendora and San Bernardino, California, churches, as coordinator.

IRIS promotes Music With a Mission in Chicago

ORLANDO, Florida--The music group IRIS came home from a spring break excursion to Chicago, where they showcased a concert and promoted their Music With a Mission.

In February the ministry sent four boxes of toys, clothes and goodies to support children at an orphanage in Metro Manila, Philippines.

They have also started the IRIS Vision Scholarship, $100 scholarships given to two graduating students from the school that IRIS members Ish Beloso and his sister, Riccinni Banham attended in the Philippines.

The criteria are 1) display financial need; 2) express a desire for serving God; 3) possess a passion for music; 4) show above average academic performance; and 5) display motivation, ambition and leadership skills.

Volunteers needed for music festival in Hillsdale, Michigan

Volunteers are needed for a Christian music festival in Hillsdale, June 24, featuring Bleach and Shaded Red.

Volunteers are needed for the following areas: prayer ministry, counseling ministry, set up, clean up, stage crew, first aid, admissions, security and more.

Volunteers are admitted to the concert at no cost, and are entitled to free concessions. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older and have a dedicated commitment to Jesus Christ, and a passion for bringing teens to his knowledge.
