Window on the World

Worldwide Church of God congregations in East Africa are multiplying so rapidly that we have to train additional leaders as quickly as possible to provide pastoral care, writes Randal Dick, superintendent of missions.

Of the 28 congregations or groups meeting regularly in Kenya, and two congregations in eastern Uganda, only two, Nairobi and Kibirichia, are more than five years old.

Twenty-six out of 28 congregations are less than five years old. Pages 12 & 13.

Financial Update

July income is right on target as total income this month was just over $1.7 million, writes controller Ron Kelly. That brought January through July income to $11.9 million.

Between 10 and 12 percent of donation income is from individuals and families who do not attend our services. They believe in and identify with the work God is doing in our church. Page 14.

Education Ministry

John McKenna, senior editor in denominational publications, gave the commencement address in Lima, Peru, for 12 Peruvian pastors who were awarded doctor of ministry degrees from the California Graduate School of Theology in Lima July 8. Page 15.

The Memphis, Tennessee, congregation offered a day camp for children ages 5 to 12 under the direction of Laura Moore.

The congregation has more than 10 teachers, wrote Errol Castens, so it seemed to be something for which they had been gifted. Page 17.

Teen Ministry

The 2000 Summer Educational Program changed lives, according to director Jeb Egbert. Better worded, Jesus changed lives by answering the prayers offered by hundreds that his presence would be felt at SEP.

Four hundred and nine campers came to Orr, Minnesota, for what several described as "the best times of their lives." Pages 18 to 20.
