RICHBURG, South Carolina—Rafeal Blackwell, 15, a sophomore at Lewisville High School in Richburg, will start attending the Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities (GSAH) in Greenville, South Carolina, in the fall as a junior.

Rafeal, who leads his class academically, will study music with a focus on the saxophone. His acceptance followed an audition that included two performances that he had prepared as well as two impromptu performances.

Rafeal, who attends the Charlotte, North Carolina, church, credits his parents, Al and Dianne Blackwell, for their support of his musical interest. Martin Manuel.
