Canadian festival sites

By Barb Wright

SURREY, British Columbia, Canada—The following sites will have festival celebrations this fall.

Penticton, British Columbia

An eight-day festival (Oct. 1 to 9) in Penticton will include morning services with seminars and events in the afternoons and evenings. The festival will focus on the personal relationship we have with our Savior.

Ross Jutsum of State of the Heart music ministries will be a guest for the last two days of the festival.

Penticton, in the Okanagan Valley, is one of Canada’s most popular vacation sites. Attendance is limited to 450, so early registration is advised.

Coordinator: Bob Morton.

Edmonton, Alberta

An eight-day festival (Oct. 1 to 9) in Edmonton will feature worship services, seminars and workshops at People’s Church. Activities and guest speakers will be a special focus during the long weekend of Friday, Oct. 5, through Monday Oct. 8, Canadian Thanksgiving Day.

Edmonton has a network of bike trails; the Muttart Conservatory; and the Space and Science Center. The West Edmonton Mall continues to add attractions—an Imax theater has just opened—and the indoor Galaxyland Amusement Park and World Water Park are locations for family enjoyment.

Coordinators: Robert Millman and Colin Lauchlan.

Battleford, Saskatchewan

The Battlefords congregation will be host for an eight-day festival, Oct. 2 to 9, with a theme of Celebrating Community. Along with special events on the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, the site will offer evening services featuring guest speakers from the Battlefords faith community.

A traditional Saskatchewan fowl supper will take place during the long weekend. The Evansburg, Alberta, congregation’s Country Light gospel group will perform that weekend. A number of recreational and historical sites can be visited. Fort Battleford, on the outskirts of town, played a major role during the Northwest rebellion of 1885.

Coordinator: Bill Hall.

Winnipeg, Manitoba

The Winnipeg church will be host for eight days of worship services, workshops and activities Oct 2 to 9 with a focus on evangelism building on the theme, Come Celebrate Christ.

Steve Bell, an award-winning gospel singer, will return, and Ross Jutsum of State of the Heart music ministries will lead musical and praise services. Activities are planned for children, including children’s church and youth services.

Coordinator: Alan Redmond.

Toronto, Ontario

Toronto will have a four-day festival (Oct. 4 to 7) filled with spiritual formation, worship and family activities. Building on the success of last year’s discipleship theme, the focus will be on the cross of Christ. The festival will have guest speakers, children’s ministries and a family focus. The church will use a new worship facility, the Islington Evangel Centre, near the airport. Hotels, restaurants and shopping are all within a kilometer or two of the center.
