Mid-Atlantic kids told to be FAT

At the Mid-Atlantic’s Junior Discovery Weekend (ages 8 to 12), Rocky Ray, program director, encouraged the 60 young people present to be FAT—faithful, available and teachable. The thrust of the weekend was to help these 30 boys and girls to know that they have a personal destiny in Christ.

Greg Williams, district coordinator, kicked off the weekend by having the group reenact the plight of Hannah and her miracle child, Samuel. The children walked through the first three chapters of 1 Samuel, acting out the parts with costumes and props. The challenge for the weekend was to hear the voice of God and to be responsive servants.

Activities included kickball, capture the flag, dodge ball, canoeing and swimming. Another teaching method that was incorporated was "Fun Food Devotion." The young people learned about God’s love with Grace Pudding, and shared their desires to serve God with peanut butter clay molds.

Other lessons dwelt on the lives of Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. The point was that God works directly with young people, and they don’t need to wait to begin a relationship with God. Greg Williams.
