Anniversary of
Sept. 11 terrorist attacksA
s we mark the one-year anniversary of the attacks by Islamic terrorists who flew hijacked airliners into the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., we remember those killed in the attacks and their families. We remember the brave firefighters, police, soldiers and others who gave their lives that others might live. We remember Todd Beamer and other passengers of Flight 93 who gave their lives overpowering hijackers and died when their plane crashed in Pennsylvania. We remember Jesus words, "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13).
As the battle against terrorism continues, we thank the Lord for the peace and safety he has given us since that time, and, remembering Pauls words to pray for our leaders (1 Timothy 2:2), we pray for President George Bush and all those fighting the war against terrorism. We especially remember our troops in the field, separated from their families, and their families back home.
We thank the Lord for the sure hope we have in him, now and in his eternal kingdom, when all people will be reconciled to him and to one another.
