Back-to-school equipping
weekend in West Virginia

POINT PLEASANT, West Virginia—Thirty-five teens gathered Aug. 8 to 10 for a weekend retreat. Teens from six congregations gathered at the farm of Don and Alice Hussell for a back-to-school equipping weekend.

A makeshift stage, from the back of a farm truck, was the gathering point for three worship services. Speakers and skits provided by the older youths inspired and challenged the younger teens to surrender all to the Lord Jesus Christ.

This is one of the three to four annual retreats coordinated by Don Hussell, youth pastor. The young people need intensive times like this to help equip them to deal with the pressures of school life. Worship is the focal point of these weekends. Between the three services, they enjoyed a bonfire in the evenings and a variety of creative games in the afternoons.

Our emphasis on these weekends is helping these young people experience God and his purpose for their lives. “Of course, we have games to allow all of the youths to participate and get to know one another,” said Pastor Mike Greider, pastor of four of the churches involved.
