Jesus and the IRS
ASHEVILLE, North Carolina—The Followers youth ministry of the Asheville church gave a drama presentation June 29 of the IRS (Internal Revenue Samaritan). We decided to create a modern version of the story of the Good Samaritan, which supported the sermon that day titled, “Are You This Good?”
The cast was as follows: Kelsy Stillwell, Internal Revenue Samaritan; Michelle Little, Jesus; Rick Stillwell, Willie Cheatum, lawyer; Tom Braine, the victim; Seth and Ben Marlowe, the bandits; Marina Braine, worship leader; Anna Stillwell, deacon; and Deanna Braine, innkeeper.
We tried to portray that we could never be as good as Jesus and that we all need a Savior. Our lawyer tested Jesus by asking him questions about eternal life. Jesus followed with a story of a man who was attacked by bandits, beaten and left for dead, of a worship leader and a deacon who were too concerned with their own lives to stop and help the hurting man. Then we portrayed our Internal Revenue Samaritan, one who is not highly looked upon, and how he saved the dying man, bandaged him and took him to the inn, paying for all the man’s physical needs.
The question then was asked of our congregation: “Are you this good?” Deanna Braine.
