Teens meet for camp in Texas

CEDAR HILL, Texas—About 60 teens and adults participated in a weekend of praise and worship, fun and fellowship Sept. 12 to 14 at Mount Lebanon Baptist Camp in Cedar Hill. Grace Family Church sponsored the weekend, which was also attended by members of the Euless, Big Sandy, Austin and San Antonio, Texas, churches.

Organizers included Pastor Lynn Hebert, Sherry Hebert, and youth leaders Corrine Brunet, Nancy Newkirk, Joe and Emily Shipman, Tom Young and others.

Campers wore T-shirts with the acronym HIS (Hungry in the Spirit) Camp. Spiritual hunger was a theme for the weekend and was addressed by speakers Rodney Schuler, pastor of the San Antonio church, and Mr. Young of Grace Family.

Grace Family’s teen band provided praise and worship at services on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. Worship team members included Nnamdi Ford, Jesse  Hebert, Steve Kramer, Michael Lewandowski, Hannah Orsburn, Jamie Orth and Alexa Wilson. Jeremy Orth of San Antonio ran the sound system.

At the Saturday service, Mr. Schuler asked teens to name some bad situations they have seen in school. He played parts of songs by the music group Linkin Park to help capture the sense of frustration and hopelessness teens can sometimes feel. The pastor emphasized the need to turn to Jesus to satisfy spiritual hunger and help us through any situation, no matter how difficult.

The pastor said that sometimes it seems easier to run from pain rather than face it, but you don’t have to face the pain alone. Nothing is bigger than Jesus. Reach up to him.

Spiritual hunger was also the theme of some skits and a Scripture reading highlighting Jesus as the Bread of Life who fills our spiritual hunger.

On Saturday night, the WCG members joined other Christian groups in the camp for a rally and concert by Envoy, a Christian band. Wes Hamilton spoke about God using Elijah to defeat the prophets of Baal in 1 Kings 18, this year’s theme for the annual See You at the Pole prayer event that took place at schools around the nation. Frank Lewandowski.
