Honor Wolverton dies
THOUSAND OAKS, California—Longtime WCG member Honor Wolverton, 98, passed away in Thousand Oaks May 12.

She became a member of the church in Vancouver, Washington, along with her husband, Basil Wolverton, in 1941. Mr. Wolverton, who died in 1978, served as a pastor of the Vancouver church, and was a board member. He was an author and artist for church publications, including the Bible Story, and was known outside the church as a cartoonist and caricaturist.
Mrs. Wolverton was also preceded in death by three brothers, Marion E., Ronald G. and Gerard H. Lovette. She is survived by a son, Monte Wolverton and his wife, Kayte, a granddaughter, Monika Spykerman and her husband, Simon, and a great-granddaughter, Annika Spykerman.
Mrs. Wolverton was born Honor Bonita Lovette on a farm near the small eastern Washington town of Mansfield, and grew up helping her three older brothers herd cattle and harvest wheat. In early 1926, the family moved to Vancouver, Washington, where Mrs. Wolverton met her future husband, Basil, in high school. While Mr. Wolverton pursued his career as a cartoonist and writer, Mrs. Wolverton attended business college, later working for an insurance agency in Portland. From 1951 until 1962, she worked as payroll clerk for the Vancouver School District.
Mrs. Wolverton taught Sunday school for many years at the First Baptist Church in Vancouver. She later served as a deaconess in the Worldwide Church of God.
Mrs. Wolverton lived in Vancouver for 72 years, until 1998, when she moved to a retirement home in Thousand Oaks, California, to be near her family. She became a great-grandmother in 2003.
Funeral services were conducted May 21 in Vancouver, where Mrs. Wolverton was laid to rest next to her husband.
