Bob Persky: Florida district

CORANDO, Florida—-Bob Persky, Florida district superintendent, was in the pioneer class of Ambassador College in Big Sandy, Texas, in the fall of 1964.

Persky had applied to attend the college one year earlier, but the opening was delayed, so he studied electrical engineering at the University of Houston for one year after having graduated from high school in 1963.

Persky has worked for the WCG for 37 years. In summer 1967, he was sent to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and South Bend, Indiana, for a summer ministerial assignment. During his senior year he visited and spoke in churches near Big Sandy. After he graduated in 1968, he was sent to Indianapolis, Indiana, to serve as a ministerial trainee.

In June 1969, Bob married Kay Hyde, who had just finished her junior year in Big Sandy. “We have enjoyed a very blessed 35-year marriage, having four children, Ted, Neal, Livia and Brad, and two grandsons (the second was born Jan. 12). Our children are all married and live in Texas, Florida and Kentucky. Kay has been my constant companion and co-worker in all my pastorates and district work. She loves to sing and lead worship. In a way we have a ministry partnership like Priscilla and Aquila in Acts.”

Persky has pastored congregations in Lafayette, Indiana; Champaign, Illinois; Roanoke, Virginia; Charleston, South Carolina; Savannah, Georgia; Bowling Green, Kentucky; and Ocala and Gainesville, Florida.

“I was asked to serve as district superintendent in 1995, when our son, Brad (during his freshman year at Ambassador University), was recovering from a near fatal blood disease in the Dallas Children’s Hospital. I gladly accepted the duty. This responsibility has been an extremely rewarding and revealing job. It showed me up close the intense love and care that our headquarters staff has for our pastors and membership.

“The many prayers that the district superintendents and headquarters staff have prayed are what have given me hope through all the struggles our WCG denomination has witnessed. Jesus has truly been our Deliverer, Provider and Guide.”

Persky is being transferred to Texas, where he will become the South Central district superintendent when Carn Catherwood retires in June. This will be his third district (Bowling Green, Florida and South Central) in which he has served. The Florida district will be served by Allan Barr, in addition to his duties as Southeast district superintendent.
