The faculty and administration of Ambassador University announce that the following academic majors have been approved to begin in the fall: American studies, mass communication, computer information systems, history, music and theology.
An elementary teacher education program is planned to begin in the fall 1997.
These new majors are in addition to present majors in business administration, English, family studies, liberal studies, management information systems and psychology.
The university received a gold award (Addy) at the 10th Annual American Advertising Awards banquet in Tyler, Texas, Feb. 10, for the KBAU-FM stationery package.
A silver award was given for KBAU's logo, and a merit award for the university's Center for Distance Learning brochure.
The awards were accepted by Greg S. Smith, director of university publications, who designed the award-winning entries. The 1995 Envoy, AU's yearbook, was one of three university publications in its division to be awarded first place with special merit, by the American Scholastic Press Association.
In men's basketball, Ben Manek, a 5'10" sophomore guard from Harrah, Oklahoma, received honorable mention for the NAIA Division I Big State Conference all-conference team.
Manek was conference player of the week for the week ending Jan. 27.
The Royals completed the season ranked among the top 10 in the nation for team free throw percentage.
The Lady Royals earned a post-season conference tournament bid, but lost in the first round to regular season conference champion East Texas Baptist University.
Shari Sawyer, a 5'4" senior guard from Sewell, New Jersey, was named to the all-conference team.
Receiving honorable mention was Christy Werst, a 5'10" sophomore forward from Tillamook, Oregon.
Six students presented works at the Sigma Tau Delta International Convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico, March 7 through 9.
This year's English Honor Society convention, with the theme "(Trans)Forming Literary Landscapes" was attended by Joe Comino, Herndon, Virginia; Alison Cramer, Janesville, Wisconsin; Josianne Martin, Malvern, United Kingdom; Nathanael O'Reilly, Victoria, Australia; Meredith Smith, Gadsden, Alabama; and John Stonecypher, Floyd, Iowa.
The Ambassador University Chorale and Orchestra presented two performances of the contemporary oratorio God With Us in the field house auditorium, Feb. 3.
God With Us is a combination of traditional and contemporary hymns arranged in different medleys.
Described as "a worship experience for all seasons," the show highlighted such hymns as "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," "All Hail The Power of Jesus' Name," and "Crown Him King of Kings."
