David Gilbert, pastor of the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, church, received the following comment from Roger Griffiths of the Australian Office about his article about the Promise Keepers clergy conference in the Feb. 27 Worldwide News.
BURLEIGH HEADS, Australia--It was a delight to read about the Promise Keepers clergy convention in Atlanta, Georgia, and in particular the changing of your approach during the convention. Your article is known to Promise Keepers in Australia.
I had met David Bentley, the Queensland, Australia, president of Promise Keepers and when advising him of the WN's positive news about the Atlanta convention he said that he had heard nothing of the outcome so far.
So the next day I gave him a copy of The Worldwide News, and he invited me to a local Promise Keepers breakfast. It was moving to be among about 10 denominations, singing songs of worship. David raved about the article you had written.
I was one of two who were called upon to speak to the group of about 60 to 70 and tell in less than a minute what we knew about the person on our left.
The main speaker spoke on, "The Ultimate Promise Keeper is Jesus Christ."
A week later David was in Melbourne at the Promise Keepers national board meeting, and copies of the Worldwide News article were distributed, and a message was sent to the U.S. Promise Keepers group to check that they were obtaining copies of it, because it was so moving.
We are having two Promise Keepers conferences in Australia over the next few weeks, and I'm booked to go to one of them. Anticipation is building, and I'm encouraging all to go. It seems to me to be a route to revival.
So thanks for going to the Promise Keepers convention, and also for writing the article so honestly. Keep on being an encourager of Promise Keepers involvement, and I'll do the same here.
