WCG and Church of God (Seventh Day) meet for worship

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama--The Huntsville congregation was host to the Huntsville Church of God (Seventh Day) for a worship service Feb. 17.

The speaker was Lynn Taylor, a Church of God (Seventh Day) pastor from Stanberry, Missouri.

The Huntsville Church of God (Seventh Day) congregation sponsored an ice-skating party Jan. 20 and invited the young and young at heart of the Huntsville Worldwide Church of God.

We are pleased that these two groups are beginning to work together, and we look forward to more activities together. Clyde Thompson, local elder, Huntsville, Church of God (Seventh Day).

Sri Lankan member survives bomb blast

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka--Miss Ayomi, a member here, escaped death Jan. 31, when a bomb killed 80 people at the Central Bank.

Miss Ayomi was in a building opposite the bank. When people in that building heard gunfire they rushed to the windows. Miss Ayomi looked also, but went back to her desk because she could not bear the sight of what was happening. Just then a massive explosion took place.

On the Sabbath after the blast, instead of having a sermon, we conducted a prayer session for victims and families known to the members. Bharat Naker.

Area flooded, members fine

PORTLAND, Oregon--After torrential rain that led to flooding in many areas of Oregon in February, Dan Fricke, pastor of the Portland West and Vancouver, Washington, churches, said all the brethren there are fine. "Only one member's home was flooded, but everyone was safe," he said.

"Some brethren were unable to get out of outlying areas because high water and mudslides had closed roads, but otherwise they were all right."

Glenn Ross celebrates 100th birthday

MONMOUTH, Illinois--Glenn Ross, a member of the Macomb, Illinois, church, celebrated his 100th birthday Jan. 19. Mr. Ross lives alone and does his own cooking, according to the Daily Review Atlas of Monmouth.

Until about three months before his 100th birthday he drove his own car. He does not wear glasses or use a hearing aid.

Mr. Ross has three grandchildren. He served stateside in the Army during World War I.

He raises a garden and mends his clothes with an antique electric sewing machine. His other interests include 1940s music and playing the trombone.

Indianapolis host for Midwest social

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana--The Indianapolis church invites you to its biennial Midwest social dinner and dance June 29 and 30 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom.

The guest speaker for worship services will be announced later. Music will feature a combined gospel choir, the Chicago Cosmopolitan Band and Saturday Fun Night.

Tickets, which must be purchased in advance, are $26 and are limited to those 14 years and older. They will be mailed on a first-come first-served basis. Fifth bluegrass festival slated for July 4

SCIO, Ohio--The fifth annual Worldwide Church of God and Friends Country, Western and Bluegrass Festival will take place here July 4-7 at John and Peggy Dewell's farm.

A worship service will be conducted at the farm. Primitive camping is available at the farm, and motels are 20 to 30 miles away.

Singles weekend in Tulsa

TULSA, Oklahoma--Tulsa singles invite you to their Pentecost-Memorial Day weekend, May 25 to 27.

The weekend begins with a worship service Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. with Ross Jutsum and the Young Ambassadors from Ambassador University. The evening's activities include a Bible study and social time.

Sunday morning's activities include workshops on a variety of topics followed by the Pentecost service at 3 p.m. A dinner dance will take place in the evening, and a picnic will take place Monday.

Caribbean ministers meet in Atlanta

After the regional field conference in Atlanta, Georgia, Jan. 5 through 10, ministers and their wives serving in the Caribbean conducted a two-day meeting of their own there, according to Charles Fleming, regional director for the Spanish-speaking areas and the Caribbean.

For the first time, ministers Joseph Franklin from Haiti, Tony and Malika Gallagher from Martinique, and Gilbert and Gisele Carbonnel from Guadeloupe, were able to attend, said Mr. Fleming.

Stan and Millie Bass attended the conference as guests in recognition of their years of faithful service to the region.

"It meant a lot to have them with us, and we honored them at a dinner on the first night of the Caribbean conference," Mr. Fleming said.

The Basses were presented with a clock and a tea chest by Pastor General Joseph Tkach, who reminisced about his first meeting with Mr. Bass.

"There is a new spirit at work in the church," Mr. Fleming said. "The church is being revitalized by God's Spirit. My prayer is that we let that Spirit work through us as we strive to serve the people of the Caribbean and Latin America."

SEP in Ghana: Jesus is a way of life

KUTUNSE, Ghana--"Personal Involvement and Responsibility" was the theme for 56 campers from Ghana and seven from Togo attending the Summer Educational Program here Dec. 24 through Jan. 7.

Camp kicked off with a talk by Gabriel Ojih, pastor of the Accra, Kumasi and Hohoe, Ghana, churches, who reminded everyone that the primary reason for SEP is to help youths realize that God's way works.

For the second year, the campers organized activities for and entertained 49 pre-teens. They also cleared bushes surrounding the Kutunse village well and filled potholes on the road leading to the campsite.

A dinner, awards presentation and dance rounded off camp. The award for the overall Outstanding girl camper went to Emelia Ansu-Gyeabourh, and the award for the overall Outstanding boy camper went to Kwadwo M. Anim-Appiah.

Winter camp in Switzerland

WANGS-PIZOL, Switzerland--Thirty-two teenagers and five co-workers took part in the annual winter camp Dec. 23 to 31, conducted for the first time in Switzerland.

Campers stayed at the mountain hotel Gaffia (1,860 meters elevation), which can only be reached by cable car and chairlift.

The Steinmann and P´ntener families made arrangements with the hotel.

Florence Mischnick dies

It is with great sadness that we report that Florence Mischnick, wife of former minister Al Mischnick, died Jan. 31, after a heart attack and triple bypass surgery. The funeral was conducted Feb. 5 in Gladewater, Texas.

Many of us have fond memories of Mrs. Mischnick and will miss her. Our sympathies to the family; they are in our prayers.
