BIG SANDY--National Public Radio (NPR) officials visited Ambassador University's new public radio station, KBAU, April 22 to evaluate the station's operations.
Madison Hodges, director of policy and station services at NPR, and Sydney White, station service consultant and manager of station acquisition, spoke favorably of KBAU.
"We wish that all new NPR member stations began as professionally as KBAU did here," Mr. Hodges said.
KBAU reaches more than 400,000 East Texans in 15 counties and is engaged in a variety of activities to raise awareness of public radio and KBAU's programming.
General manager Dennis Robertson has spoken at various Rotary, Lions and service clubs in the area. Sarah S. Bilowus, director of promotion and development, has also presented information about the station to a number of community groups.
In addition, KBAU sponsored an information booth at the Longview Mall March 19-23 and April 22-26. KBAU also had an information booth at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore in Tyler May 3 and again May 10.
KBAU has received more than $100,000 in corporate and individual membership since its inception in November, including state-of-the-art digital equipment. KBAU seeks to raise an additional $135,000 this year to cover programming and operational expenses. Room for more names exists on the KBAU inaugural membership plaque, which will be unveiled at inaugural events for the station this fall. Please see details on the form at right.
