Media Operations personnel met April 25 to honor retiring employees Herman L. Hoeh, Sheila Graham and Val Brown; Cledice Decker of the Mail Processing Center; Archie Hall of the postal center (who previously worked in Transportation); and Norman Shoaf, who is moving out of the area.
Pastor General Joseph Tkach presented a clock to Dr. Hoeh engraved with the following: "Herman L. Hoeh, in loving appreciation for your service and dedication to the ministry of Jesus Christ. Thanks for your leadership and contributions as an employee of the Worldwide Church of God from 1951 to 1996. From your fellow employees, friends and brethren."
Mr. Tkach said: "I've long admired and enjoyed my relationship with Dr. Hoeh and I'm just delighted that it will continue."
Dr. Hoeh replied: "I have been privileged through this institution to have traveled or gotten to know so many people in so many areas and so many different and delightful people on our staff itself.
"I hope that you can continue, Mr. Tkach, to exhibit what I very much appreciated in your father. He was the kind of man who loved me."
In his presentation to Mrs. Graham, Mr. Albrecht said: "You've been a true example and inspiration to many of us. You've done some wonderful things for the church and will continue to do so."
"My years working for the church have been eventful ones," Mrs. Graham said. "I've been privileged to be involved in starting up several publications, including The Worldwide News and the Youth magazine. I also helped resurrect the Good News magazine once or twice and survived several redesigns of the PT under various editors.
"I've worked with some talented people who were truly dedicated to the church's publications. I've learned from them, and I believe they've learned from me as well at times. They have been good years.
"As for the future, I'll continue to contribute to the PT. I'm also excited about working with Tammy Tkach to promote women's ministry in the church. "
Miss Brown said: "There is no other place where I would have rather worked. It's been wonderful. This is not the end of my life. I am closing one chapter. I'm going on to the next one, and I'm really excited about it."
Archie Hall said: "Most of all I enjoyed working with converted people, including Merle May and Grady Smith (both deceased), Charles Roemer Sr., Bill Whitman and many more, including my son, Steve, who is in his 23rd year at Transportation.
"I used to call Mr. Tkach Sr. `Uncle Joe.' I would see him at the gas pumps a lot as he always needed help with the widows and their cars."
