Mr. & Mrs. Tkach visit New York City

By Jeff Broadnax

NEW YORK, N.Y.--Pastor General Joseph Tkach and his wife, Tammy, visited New York City March 14-16.

As the Tkaches entered the Colden Center of Queens College for the worship service March 15, many of the 1,175 brethren shared their love, excitement and reflections from the Tkaches' last visit to New York in 1989.

Under the coordination of regional pastor Steve Botha, pastors and members from New York City, New Jersey and lower Connecticut had come to participate in this Spirit-filled worship service with the pastor general.

The chorale and ensemble performed a call to worship with "We Have Come Into This House." Pastor Lincoln Jailal of Queens (see photo below) welcomed the Tkaches and visitors. Pastor Jeffrey Broadnax of Manhattan and Westchester led the congregation in song, and Pastor Stanley De Veaux of Long Island asked the invocation. The theme Scripture was read by Tom and Bettye Oakley, who pastor the Brooklyn church. This led to two selections from the Greater New York Chorale and Ensemble under the direction of Serge Volpe.

Rudy Anderson of Union, New Jersey, sang a solo of "Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel?" Aisha Hargett and Sandra Jones, teens from the Manhattan church, were featured in the selection "Instruments of Peace."

Mr. Tkach then gave a message titled "Perception and Contentment." He said: "The Worldwide Church of God is full of committed people and always has been.... Please don't allow Satan to weaken that commitment." He encouraged all to use their spiritual gifts to strengthen the body.

After the closing prayer by Pastor Dan Bierer of Montvale, New Jersey, and Middletown, New York, the Jailals gave the Tkaches a card of appreciation.
