HOUSTON, Texas--A citywide baptism took place Sunday, July 27, at Adventure Bay Water Theme Park.
The cross-denominational baptism was sponsored by Somebody Cares Houston, a ministry of Turning Point Ministries International (TPMIA) headquartered in Houston.
The goal was to continue the reconciliation work of a 40-day revival that took place here in 1996.
It was a joy to gather with pastors from about 30 churches in Houston and see walls broken down so the gospel could be preached to those attending.
From two to four thousand people attended. Doug Stringer, director of Turning Point Ministries, preached a message about Christ the Good Shepherd pursuing the sheep, and issued a call to repent and accept Jesus Christ.
Afterward, hundreds came forward to be baptized--some by their own pastors, and some who weren't affiliated with any church.
Wayman Thurman and I baptized five young people from the Houston North congregation: Brandi Bounds, Stacey Bounds, Randy Hanneman, Jason Harper and Karissa Matthews.
Family and friends rejoiced at this wonderful event of repentance and forgiveness in the name of Jesus Christ.
