SAN MARCOS, California--Ross Jutsum, former chair of the Ambassador Music Department, led a worship service and conducted a worship seminar in the San Diego North County congregation Dec. 6.
Dr. Jutsum was invited to San Diego by Warren and Pam Waian, who pastor the congregation here.
According to Dr. Waian: "Everyone really appreciated that Ross took the whole service, and did a sermon mostly in song. He discussed how our entire life should be dedicated to worship, and it gave everyone in the congregation a new perspective on how to worship."
After the service, Dr. Jutsum spent a couple hours with area musicians helping to further their ministry.
Pam Waian felt it was encouraging, positive and upbeat, especially for those who aren't musicians. Mrs. Waian was happy that a man who had not attended services for some time was visiting that day. After the service he said he was ready to recommit to Christ.
Dr. Jutsum served as general editor of the 1993 Worldwide Church of God hymnal. He has now founded a ministry of music called State of the Heart Music Ministry.
One purpose of the new ministry is to build bridges through education in worship music. To that end, he has conducted a number of workshops for worship teams and leaders over the past few months in Britain, Canada and the United States.
Dr. Jutsum has produced a collection of compact discs containing instrumental accompaniments to 181 worship music selections. The collection, "Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs," includes 101 of the best-loved traditional, Christian hymns and 80 more contemporary spiritual songs.
Dr. Jutsum received his doctorate in Musical Arts at the University of North Texas in 1995.
