Robert C. Smith, longtime elder, dies of cancer in California

SAN CLEMENTE, California--Robert C. Smith, 69, formerly of Big Sandy, Texas, died at home Nov. 11 after suffering with cancer for more than four years.

He was born May 5, 1928, in Buffalo, New York, to Carl and Mae (Roeder) Smith. Bob married Shirley Windsor June 25, 1949, in Orchard Park, New York.

His lifelong love was serving the brethren, as a minister of God, in the many congregations he pastored. He pastored WCG congregations in Fontana and Banning, California; Fort Worth, Texas; Phoenix, Arizona; and Austin, Texas.

Joseph Tkach, president of the Worldwide Church of God, said: "Bob always brought a touch of humor and warmth into every situation. I look forward with keen anticipation to seeing him at the great family reunion at Christ's return."

Bob is survived by his wife, Shirley; a daughter, Debra Krueger-Smith, and three sons and three daughters-in-law, Greg and Melinda; Scott and Debbie; Kevin; and Rhonda Smith (widow of Jeff Smith); nine grandchildren, Marisa (Smith) Larson, Brittany, Cody, Blake, Ashley, Gregory, Zachary, Chaz and Britton; and one great-grandchild, Mackenzie Larson.

Also surviving are four sisters, Sally Felleson, Helen Belter, Marion Pate and Carol Cuthbertson; and one half-brother, John Fish.

Burial was at Gladewater Memorial Park in Gladewater, Texas, next to his son, Jeff.
