San Antonio theme: Rejoice! You Are Wonderfully Made

NEAR KERRVILLE, Texas--San Antonio Women's Ministries was host to 188 women Dec. 7 and 8 at a conference and retreat with the theme "Rejoice! You Are Wonderfully Made."

The purpose of the conference was for women to remove themselves from the daily issues of life and to focus on spiritual responsibility toward self and others.

Guest speakers were Tammy Tkach, the church's Women's Ministry Support coordinator, who spoke on Self-Esteem in Christ; Sheila Graham, editor of Christian Women in Touch, who spoke on What Women's Ministry Is and Is Not; and Linda Dyer, a pastor's wife from Columbia, Missouri, who spoke on The Dynamics of Growth and Change.

All 21 general assembly lecturers, workshop presenters and break-out facilitators are WCG members.

The conference was based on Psalm 139:14: "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." The focus was on a woman's responsibility to recognize, develop and use her individual characteristics actively in 1) the development of Christlike interpersonal relationships and 2) the use of spiritual gifts in service to all within a congregation.

Eleanor Cogburn, San Antonio Women's Ministries director and conference developer, said: "The conference and retreat was our first major step in laying the foundation of our women's newly found freedom, self-esteem and responsibility as we apply the true Christian life in our homes, in our churches and in our communities."

Nine workshops on subjects of concern for women in the church were conducted. Topics, presenters and areas of residence are 1) Healing Relationships, Donna Tucker, Austin, Texas; 2) Life in the Cave, Karen Quinn, Houston, Texas; 3) The Wounded Heart: From Grief to Growth, Sue Hewitt, Houston; 4) Stress Management, Linda Dyer, Columbia, Missouri; 5) Real Communication With God, Kathleen Labedz, Houston; 6) Women's Prayer Groups: What? Why? How?, Sara Thurman, Houston; 7) Intercessory Prayer, Linda Dyer; 8) Reading for Life, Dee Beam, Houston; and 9) Surviving Childhood Abuse, Betty Griffith, Houston.
