The Worldwide Church of God is now a partner denomination of the American Bible Society and Mission America and has been invited to join the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE).
NAE is a voluntary fellowship of theologically conservative denominations, churches, organizations, institutions and individuals.
"I am greatly encouraged about the growth and future of the Worldwide Church of God," Mr. Tkach wrote.
Joining these associations are important milestones in the future work God has for our congregations and our denomination. Page 1.
Around the world members are launching efforts to fulfill the goals for the church in 1997 set by Pastor General Joseph Tkach.
In this issue we highlight the efforts of members in Upstate New York, Pennsylvania and Southern California.
Regional pastor Ken Williams encouraged the pastors in his region to acknowledge the spiritual gifts given to the brethren by putting them to work in the ministries they appear to be gifted in.
Ken said that this will allow the pastors to contribute in areas they are gifted in. Page 3.
What does it mean to accept Christ? Charles Fleming examines this question in Iron Sharpens Iron.
Charles asks: How do you know when you have accepted Christ? Do you need to accept Christ as the Lord of your life? Do you need spiritual revival?
In the article that follows, Charles answers these questions and shows us how we can be sure that we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Pages 4 and 5.
Women's ministries are in full swing in many congregations and are being launched in others.
Several congregations have served as hosts for conventions and retreats.
In this issue we take a look at retreats sponsored by the churches in Pasadena and in San Antonio, Texas.
Jan Johnson, award-winning author, told Pasadena area women that "God actively pursues you. You cannot make him not love you."
Near San Antonio, 188 Worldwide Church of God women heard nine WCG women give workshops on areas they are gifted in. Page 7.
Worldwide Church of God teens attended Acquire the Fire conventions in Dallas, Texas, and Long Beach California. At both conventions WCG teens made life-changing commitments to Christ.
The teens were encouraged to have hearts of world changers. "This is what our teens have been looking for," said Linda McCullough of Big Sandy. Page 9.
Treasurer Bernie Schnippert reports that daily mail income for January amounted to an average of about $124,385.
This figure is down substantially from December's daily mail income average of $168,338, and is the lowest in absolute terms of any month in recent church history.
Nonetheless, it is within our projections for January.
This is because January tends to be one of the lower income months of the year, possibly because December (of the previous year) is usually a good month.
People tend to give before the year's end to ensure their contributions will be deductible from that year's income taxes. Page 11.
