I imagine you must plan for 1998 far in advance. Will you reissue the pledge cards for the coming budget year? If so, how will the pledge card or the pledge system change this time?
Yes, we will again issue pledge cards and ask members for their pledge commitments for 1998. The pledge card system is successful and has been one reason, perhaps the major reason, the church's income has been more stable than in recent years.
After carefully considering all factors, we have decided to issue the pledge cards in the same format for next year as this year.
One change we considered was to issue a special card for changes made in mid-year because of moves by members from church area to church area, or for changes made by a member in his giving (hopefully to raise his pledge, of course, but we realize some may have to lower their pledges because of unforeseen circumstances).
However, we decided that the collective effect of pledge changes during the year tend to cancel each other out and that it is not necessary to issue a special pledge change card.
If a church pastor wants to register a pledge change by a member, he can do so by the ministerial e-mail system.
