Personal

In his Personal Mr. Tkach writes that "in the past few months many of us in the ministry have gotten to know one another all over again at conferences in Pasadena.

"What a joy it is to pray, worship, fellowship and share meals with men and women who labor for Jesus Christ, and who sacrifice that the gospel might be taught and understood."

Mr. Tkach then encourages us to honor, overwhelm with appreciation and get along with pastors and fellow members.

"Let's be diligent about being the men and women of God that he has called us to be," Mr. Tkach writes. "Let's labor to make our fellowship a healthy and dynamic church, one that is filled with the love and excitement that Jesus Christ gives to his body." Page 1.

Conferences

Conferences took place in Pasadena in June and July for new pastor candidates and regional directors.

New pastor candidates and their wives, who serve smaller congregations, received intensive training June 30 to July 5.

Longtime minister Dean Blackwell said: "My faith in the new pastor program skyrocketed with this group of men and their wives. They encourage us headquarters people so much."

The regional directors arrived in Pasadena and began meeting June 18. Page 1.

Effective ministries

Pastors and wives from around the country share effective ministries in their congregations.

Stephen Glover writes about a ministry he launched in Montgomery, Alabama, to serve his neighborhood and the children who live there.

Ingrid Mandel writes about a sister church relationship between the congregations she and her husband, Wilhelm, serve in Michigan and the ones they previously served in the German-speaking area.

Charles Holladay writes about a shoe-box ministry that benefits homeless youths in the Minneapolis, Minnesota, area. Page 5.

Business leaders

Christian Business Leaders Worldwide is a group that meets monthly to pray and hear a guest speaker address a subject involving Christian business management.

CBLW believes in representing Christ by applying biblical principles and Christian values in the work place.

The group is dedicated to helping unemployed members find suitable employment and assisting them in career guidance or business development. CBLW hopes to raise local chapters in existing congregations. Page 6.

Teens

Baptisms and commitments to Jesus marked this year's Summer Educational Program in Big Sandy, and DC/LA, a youth evangelism super conference that many WCG teens attended in Los Angeles.

Although SEP has always emphasized Christianity as a way of life, this year greater emphasis was placed on the development of a personal relationship with Christ.

At DC/LA teens learned the importance of making Jesus their Lord and Savior and learned how to share their faith in Jesus with others. Pages 8 and 9.

Treasurer's report

In June income dipped to $121,411, the lowest daily mail income average in a while.

"Although we have been holding above this level each month so far, June finally lagged below our projection," writes treasurer Bernie Schnippert.

Dr. Schnippert notes that "although we are concerned with the drop, we know from experience that our summer months tend to be our worst income times, and that we can and will recover from the summer income doldrums if income picks up again." Page 15.
