Book charts church's reformation

Joseph Tkach, Michael Feazell and Mr. Albrecht traveled to Sisters, Oregon, May 12 and 13 to discuss with Multnomah-Questar Publishers the publication of Mr. Tkach's book Transformed by Truth.

The 24-hour visit was filled with meetings about marketing plans and promotion strategies and long editing sessions, as well as a host of details that surround the publication of a book.

The book is Mr. Tkach's story of the miraculous reformation within the Worldwide Church of God.

Don Jacobson, president of Multnomah, said: "We view the publishing of Transformed by Truth as a stewardship responsibility. Telling the story of the sweeping changes and movement of the Spirit of God within the Worldwide Church of God is one of the most exciting projects with which we have ever been involved."

"My own journey is not exactly the same as any other member of the WCG," Mr. Tkach said.

"However, I am sure that many will resonate to some of the themes we discuss in the book. On the other hand, some will not have had similar experiences. I am not speaking for every one who is now or has ever been a member of the WCG. I am simply trying to tell the story, documented by historical reality, as I have personally experienced it."

Mr. Feazell believes the book will be helpful to a variety of people. "There is a great deal of curiosity about what God has done within the WCG. Former members, former readers, former listeners to our television program, as well as the greater Christian world are all interested in the how and why of what happened."

PTM will offer the book by direct mail and ads in the WN and PT, to members, readers and a wider group of former readers at a discount to the bookstore price.

Multnomah plans to introduce Transformed by Truth at the Christian Booksellers of America convention in Atlanta in mid-July.

Bookstores will have the book available for sale in August, and a variety of talk shows and other interviews will be used to help promote the book in the early fall.

A host of leaders in the body of Christ, crossing denominational and ministry boundaries, have endorsed the book:

* "Wow!!! What a story! Transformed by Truth was a healing balm for this old preacher's cynicism. Read this book and rejoice with the angels. You'll be glad you did."

Steve Brown, professor of preaching at Reformed Theological Seminary, Orlando, Florida

* "The transformation of the Worldwide Church of God is a remarkable story. Every Christian should read this account of the Lord's power and grace."

Paul Cedar, chairman, Mission America, former president of the Evangelical Free Church of America and former pastor of Lake Avenue Congregational Church in Pasadena

* "To know the story of these dear brothers who have truly `tasted grace' is to be more than fully assured of the validity of God's miracle wrought in the Worldwide Church of God.

"Even more significantly, it is to have your own heart stirred with a deeper hunger to keep that childlike humility that we all need if we want to live in grace as well as believe in it-- for all our lives."

Jack Hayford, pastor, The Church on the Way, Van Nuys, California.

Mr. Tkach said that the staff and employees of Multnomah showed personal interest in the book.

"They have a heart for this dramatic work of the Holy Spirit," he said. "They want this story to be told, and as a Christian publishing company they are working hard to share the good news with the public at large. They are not simply publishing a book, they are sharing the gospel, in this case how the gospel changed the WCG."

WN readers can order Transformed by Truth through an order form that will be published in the July 22 issue.
