BOSTON--Last year about this time Mr. Kelly wrote an article in the Pastor General's Report letting us know about the National Day of Prayer Task Force. The article instructed us on how to get involved in our own congregations and community and to come before God on behalf of our country, our communities and to pray for our leadership. The article inspired and intrigued me.
I contacted the NDP and asked how I could get started and what might already be happening in my community. As they looked in their computer for the state coordinator for Massachusetts, we found out there wasn't one.
I suggested they find someone to help since it would be nice for those who are interested to ask someone for advice. After a brief discussion, I hung up the phone as the new state coordinator for Massachusetts.
It was easy to get involved, and it has been a great benefit to me personally, to our congregation, to the local community and most of all, for this country.
It was exciting praying with so many people from so many backgrounds and interests for the betterment of this country and its leaders.
What was most exciting was that we were asking God to be a part of it. We asked for the wisdom of Jesus Christ to move this country in a powerful way and for him to use those whom he has appointed, to bring this country to a stronger, deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
At the NDP conference in Colorado Springs it was inspiring to be with Christians from so many backgrounds who were united with one cause--Jesus Christ. We had some different ways to pray, to worship, to sing, but we had only one answer to this world's trials and tribulations--that Jesus Christ would intervene and that he would guide us all to a better relationship with him.
The fellowship, the classes and the instruction were great. It was much like attending some of our ministerial conferences. We left Colorado Springs with many emotions and a positive feeling of belonging to an important cause. It's not the only cause we have in our lives, but it is a meaningful and rewarding one.
I would like to urge any and all pastors and members who are not currently involved in the NDP to get involved. It can be as grandiose as you would like it to be or it can be as simple as you and someone else praying for this country and for God to intervene and heal us all.
This year the theme for the NDP is "In God We Trust."
