Resurrection of saved and lost

Several have questioned item No. 6 from the Statement of Faith of the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) that appeared on page 2 of the Feb. 18 Worldwide News.

It reads: "We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation."

Mike Feazell, executive editor, explained the statement:

Statement six implies nothing other than what it specifically says: The lost will be resurrected to damnation (King James Version) or condemnation (New International Version).

The statement comes directly from the mouth of Jesus: John 5:28-29: "Do not be astonished at this; for the hour is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and will come out--those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation."

The statement is specifically designed not to imply anything other than the words of Jesus, so that all NAE members can agree on the truth of the Scripture, regardless of how they might variously interpret it.

That is why we can agree wholeheartedly with the statement--it is purely scriptural, no interpretation given.
