One hundred ten members kept the 1997 Festival in Greece. The group was international in character with participants from Britain, the United States, Canada, Greece, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Singapore and Albania.
The group met every day and combined educational visits to Mars Hill, the Acropolis, the National Archaeological Museum, Mount Lycabettus, the ancient city of Corinth, Loutraki, Delphi, Sounion and the islands of Aegina, Poros and Hydra.
The speakers were likewise diverse in linguistic and cultural background--K.J. Stavrinides, who directs the work in Greece; Robert Millman from Canada; Shannon Lucas from the United States; Bill Huston and Robert Beggs from Northern Ireland; and Karl Moore and William Adlington from England.
Dr. Stavrinides acknowledged God's special calling of Michael and Sonia Marcou and the powerful way in which they have been used to serve the needs of the work in the Athens area. In a ceremony on the first day, Dr. Stavrinides and Mr. Millman ordained Mr. Marcou as a deacon--the first deacon in our fellowship in Greece.
