PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island--Eighty-seven women from New England, New York and New Jersey celebrated the joy of God's love at a women's retreat, "Capture the Joy," Aug. 23 and 24 in Exeter, Rhode Island.
The retreat was sponsored by the women's ministries in Providence, Rhode Island, and Norwich, Connecticut, and was directed by Lorraine Pelley.
Guest speakers were Norva Kelly of Pastoral Development in Pasadena and Patricia Halford, coordinator of women's ministries in Europe.
In Norva's session, "Let Go and Let God," she reminded the women that God is always there to give us comfort, support and encouragement.
Pat gave a humorous look at what it's like to serve God in different parts of the world in "Whither Thou Goest, Send Me a Postcard!"
Kay Neves, a member from Providence, led the women with praise songs, and others performed music and drama selections.
Participants chose to attend one of four breakout discussion groups: Forgiveness, Joy in Trials, My Identity in Christ and Growing Older With Christ. The emerging theme was that deep spiritual joy rises above any of our physical circumstances.
Joan Backhus, a member from New Jersey, said: "The retreat was a delight. For a brief time God lifted us above the everyday difficulties of life and helped us share our lives with our sisters in Christ.
"May our wings gently touch all those who fly with us, as we capture and share the joy of God's truth."
