PASADENA--Representatives of the Worldwide Church of God, the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and the Church of God (Seventh Day), came together for a consultation Sept. 15, 16 and 17 in Pasadena. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the seventh day Sabbath.
The consultation, or dialogue, was an exchange of ideas, scholarship, formal presentation of papers, as well as questions and answers. Daily meetings began with praise, worship, prayer and a 15-minute devotional delivered by conference participants.
The goal of the meeting was to explore the Word of God while supporting, assisting and helping each other in understanding the biblical Sabbath. The conference was chaired by Joseph Tkach, president and pastor general of the Worldwide Church of God. On the first day of the meetings, President Tkach read a letter from Robert Folkenberg, president of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
Participants in the consultation studied and prayed together, shared in "iron-sharpening iron" discussions and pledged to continue inter-church discussions, understanding and conscientious cooperation.
