Colorado Springs women hosts to Building Bridges '97

By Annette Ellis

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado--The Women's Ministry of Colorado Springs was host to a retreat July 25 to 27 in the Valley of the Eagle's Nest, a secluded 700-acre conference center nestled against the Rocky Mountains.

Seventy-eight women from five states gathered to consider the theme, "Building Bridges '97."

Coordinator Annette Ellis and the hospitality committee greeted each guest in the foyer of the 67-room English-Tudor-style Glen-Eyrie Castle at the end of a winding drive through a hidden valley named Queen's Canyon.

Guest speakers

Guest speaker Tammy Tkach presented two messages, Do You Know Who You Are? and Following to Lead; Sheila Graham discussed Women's Ministry--What It Is and Isn't; Sophronia Morris spoke on Bridging the Gap; and Donna Tucker addressed the group on Bridge Repair Ahead.

Four workshops were conducted. Topics, presenters and areas of residence were: 1) Spiritual Bermuda Triangle, Donna Tucker, Austin, Texas; 2) The Ways We Learn, Desiree Crump and Jennifer Craft, Colorado Springs; 3) Lay Counseling, Sheila Graham, Arcadia, California; and 4) Lord Teach Me to Pray, Sophronia Morris, Colorado Springs.

Six roundtable discussions on a wide range of subjects were included, as well as early morning prayer circles.

The response to the scenery, the music, the messages and the fellowship among sisters in Christ was overwhelming.

Some called the retreat a mini- Feast and said their lives were changed profoundly. The women enjoyed mouth-watering meals prepared under the supervision of executive chef Mike Longo.

Sharing with the congregation

Saturday, Sept. 6, Paul Butler, Colorado Springs pastor, turned over the entire worship service to the Women's Ministry to give the congregation an overview of the July retreat.

Five speakers gave personal examples of how this retreat touched them, and cards were read from women who had visited from other areas.

Building Bridges '98 is planned for July 31 to Aug. 2 of next year, and the Colorado Springs Women's Ministry invites all Christian women to participate.
