More loving worship services

The changes in our understanding the truth of the new covenant, with the emphasis on Jesus who personifies love, has definitely made a change in the atmosphere of our worship services.

Gone are the cliques and loners and the ignoring of other brethren by some. Instead, everyone seems to be friendly, if not loving, with everybody else in our congregation.

This is the result (good fruit) of replacing the attitude of how much better we can obey the law than someone else, with how much love and concern we can show to our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ (all of them).

It's been a wonderful experience witnessing this beautiful change in us.

Not so little Estonia

In the Aug. 19 WN, a subhead in Window on the World read, "Little Estonia Begins to Blossom." Thank God for that.

As this might possibly also occasion future reporting of the country in the WN, may I bring some perspective to bear on the littleness of Estonia?

Estonia is certainly not big. But geographically, Estonia is larger than Denmark, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands or Taiwan and more than twice the size of Israel.

In terms of population, it is about 15 times larger than Iceland, just more than double the size of Fiji, the same size as Northern Ireland and not quite as large as Tibet in China.

In terms of gross domestic product per head of household, it is larger than any other country of the former Soviet Union including Russia and Ukraine, larger than Venezuela, Poland, Turkey and Vietnam, and similar to the Republic of South Africa.

In U.S. comparisons, it is geographically the approximate size of Massachusetts and Maryland combined, and in population terms, it is about the size of Alaska, Nebraska, New Mexico or Utah.

Estonia's population is about 1.5 million, and its area, not counting its territorial waters, is 17,413 square miles, or 45,100 square kilometers. (Most data from the Oxford Concise Atlas of the World and The Economist Pocket World in Figures, 1997 Edition.)

Sharing the load

Thank you for the article in the Aug. 19 issue by Ted Johnston, "Every Member Is a Member of Reconciliation" in the Iron Sharpens Iron section.

I found it encouraging when he clarified that ministry "is not primarily a matter of circulating information," but offering ourselves, flaws and all, for service, to model Jesus.

I look forward to serving with the gifts God has given me. And thank you for welcoming me into the ministry. The job is easier when we all share the load.

Upward, inward and outward in Christ's love.
