The kingdom of God is like a wealthy landowner who went on a journey. He called his servants together and gave them part of his property to manage on his behalf. To some he gave a vineyard, from which he expected wine. To others he gave land and seeds, from which he expected a harvest. And to others he gave money, which he wanted to be invested for a profit.
And there was great joy among the servants as they began their work.
But the owner did not come as soon as the servants expected. Some of them stopped working, and some began to steal from the other servants. And some continued faithfully in their work.
Eventually the owner returned, and he called his servants into account. Those who had stopped working were thrown out of the kingdom into utter darkness and anguish. Those who had stolen were beaten and sent to jail.
But those who had been faithful were rewarded generously, given an inheritance of their own, and invited into the master's feast to eat and drink with him.
This is what the kingdom of God is like.
