North Carolina teens take part in 30-Hour Famine

By Frank Ancona

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina--Teens from the Charlotte, Greensboro and Winston-Salem congregations joined with teens from the Alliance Missionary Church in Winston-Salem to take part in the 30-Hour Famine fund-raiser for World Vision Feb. 28 and 29.

The teens fasted for 30 hours to get a sense of what many children feel daily in many third and fourth world nations. They spent the time leading up to and during the Famine to raise money for World Vision.

In addition the teens took part in a one-hour canned food collection relay to support the Salvation Army food bank in Winston-Salem. A Salvation Army official said that the donated food was "enough to feed about 75 people for one week." More than $2,400 in donations were collected in the drive with nearly $300 being collected during the one-hour food drive.

The event included sessions delivered by two missionaries and concluded with a worship service and a much awaited spaghetti dinner.
