Church officials attend NAE '98 Evangelical Summit

ORLANDO, Florida--Three WCG officials attended the '98 Evangelical Summit, sponsored by the National Association of Evangelicals in Orlando March 2 to 4. In attendance were Joseph Tkach, WCG president; Mr. Albrecht, editor; and Dan Rogers, superintendent of ministers.

Mr. Tkach traveled on to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he appeared on the 700 Club television program March 5 with host Pat Robertson.

Mr. Tkach, Mr. Albrecht and Mr. Rogers also attended the Mission America conference in St. Louis Jan. 22 and 23.

Mr. Rogers said: "These conferences give us the opportunity to explain the transformation that has taken place in the Worldwide Church of God and to network and partner with other churches in evangelistic and outreach programs."

Detroit East congregation prays for Christian unity

EASTPOINTE, Michigan--The Detroit East congregation was one of seven churches to celebrate a Week of Prayer for Christian Unity with a combined service Jan. 18-25.

The seven participated in a service Jan. 21 that included a performance by the Detroit East gospel choir.

The theme for this year's Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, was "Be Led by the Spirit in Hope," from Romans 8:14-27.

Joseph and Tammy Tkach visit South Florida churches

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida--Joseph and Tammy Tkach visited the South Florida WCG congregations March 28.

About 280 women met Saturday and Sunday for a women's ministry session. An additional 200 members from the Miami, Kendall, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach and Port St. Lucie congregations attended the worship service.

That evening Mr. and Mrs. Tkach were guests at a dinner for elders, deacons, deaconesses and their spouses organized by Larry Hinkle, pastor of the Boca Raton and Port St. Lucie congregations.

Also in attendance were deaconesses and wives of deacons and elders from the Caribbean and Latin America attending the women's conference (see page 16).

After dinner Mrs. Tkach shared her vision for WCG women's ministry, and Mr. Tkach updated the group on various aspects of the church's work and plans. Patrick Fearon.

Members safe after tornadoes hit central Florida

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Florida--No Worldwide Church of God members were injured or suffered loss when tornadoes hit central Florida in late February. Members live within five miles of the hardest hit mobile home parks and strip malls in Kissimmee.

We mobilized a donation drive among the three churches here. Several members donated money and food to the Red Cross in Orlando. Others donated blood.

There has been much loss, but there has also been an overwhelming display of concern and sacrifice as others in the community step in to help out. Steve Schantz.

Merger of Miracles

Southern California Christian leaders met for worship and prayer Feb. 19 in the Ambassador Auditorium. The group discussed the National Day of Prayer and prayed for reconciliation and for God's blessing on evangelistic efforts.

Pasadena church reconciliation month

The Pasadena church participated in a reconciliation month in February that included race, gender, music and denominational reconciliation. Several guest speakers addressed the congregation.

Congregations celebrate anniversaries

SANTA FE, New Mexico--The Santa Fe church celebrated its 15th anniversary Feb. 21.

The anniversary service featured a sermon by pastor Tom Melear. Among the attendees was David Albert, a former pastor of the Albuquerque church.

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania--The Harrisburg congregation will celebrate its 35th anniversary June 13 and 14.

All friends are invited to attend a worship service June 13 with guest speaker Pastor General Joseph Tkach, followed by a buffet dinner and dance.

Services and the dinner-dance will be at the Harrisburg Marriott Hotel, beginning at 3 p.m.

The cost of the dinner and dance is $20 per adult and $9 for children 9 and under. Payment is required in advance.

Sunday, June 14, a family picnic will take place at the Lower Allen Township Community Park beginning at 11 am. A picnic lunch will be served. Donations are requested to defray the cost of the picnic lunch.

Housing is available at the Harrisburg Marriott for a limited time at a reduced rate of $80 a night, single occupancy, or $85 a night, double occupancy.

NORTH BATTLEFORD, Saskatchewan--The North Battleford congregation will celebrate its 25th anniversary May 16 and 17 in Battleford.

All former members and ministers are invited to attend.

Events include a worship service Saturday followed by a catered meal and variety show.

A pancake breakfast is scheduled for Sunday at historic Fort Battleford as well as games and tours.

Tampa musical drama depicts birth of Christ

TAMPA, Florida--The Tampa congregation presented an original musical drama, "Unto Us a Child Is Born," Dec. 13.

Two narrators related the story of Christ's first coming as recorded in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. Seasonal songs were performed by the Christones (a light rock band made up of Tampa members), the Gospel choir, the children's choir and several soloists.

A highlight of the performance was the portrayal of one of the wise men by Luther Richie, 90. The event was advertised on two Christian radio stations, and the public was invited. Eloise K. Kurzawa.

Salem, Oregon, congregation plans prayer jubilee

SALEM, Oregon--The Salem women's ministry will sponsor its second prayer jubilee for the entire family May 16. The event will include praise and worship, sharing answered prayers, prayer group workshops and hearing from guest speaker Carn Catherwood.

New pastor installed in Salem, Oregon

SALEM, Oregon--In a Jan. 24 worship service, J. Wayne Mitchell was installed as the new pastor of the Salem congregation and outgoing pastor Sean Finnegan was honored for his past service.

The ceremony included participation by all attendees. After the new pastor and his wife, Patty, were called to the stage, the deacons, deaconesses, elders and their spouses came up to help with the ceremony. Gerald Schnarrenberger of Church Administration officiated.

During the ceremony Mr. Mitchell promised God that he will faithfully serve the Salem congregation, doing his best to uphold the calling and office of pastor and shepherd.

The congregation then promised to faithfully support their new pastor and help him in doing the ministry of Jesus Christ. After a prayer and laying on of hands by all the men and women on stage, Wayne and Patty Mitchell were presented to the congregation as their new pastor and wife.

Lisa Bloom receives DAR award

BALDWINSVILLE, New York--Lisa Bloom, a senior at Baker High School, received the Good Citizen Award from the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Lisa was chosen for the award because of her academic standing and her extracurricular activities. She ranks fourth in her class of 387 students. She is president of the student council.

Lisa is the daughter of Randy and Debbie Bloom, who pastor the Syracuse and Utica churches.
