Women's ministry

Women's conference in Northern Ireland

By Tina Sullivan

BELFAST, Northern Ireland--"The encouragement was just what we needed," said Sandra Carson from Craigavon, Northern Ireland. "It enabled us to settle a lot of questions and misgivings we had about women's ministry."

"We feel better understood, more able to share and ready to take up the challenge to develop our gifts in service to God."

Sandra Carson was one of more than 50 women from Ireland who attended a meeting in Belfast, Monday evening, Jan. 12, to hear guest speakers Tammy Tkach, Sheila Graham and Susie Dick from Pasadena repeat presentations they gave at the women's conference in England, Jan. 9 to 11.

Pat Halford, women's ministry director in Europe, accompanied the three women to Belfast.

After an informal buffet, Mrs. Graham talked about aspects of women's ministry, including purposes and goals.

Then Mrs. Dick spoke on "Having the Courage to Heal," in which she shared advice and others' experiences in facing emotional healing issues.

After a break, Mrs. Tkach gave her presentation, "Dancing in the Arms of God," encouraging the women to depend fully on God and make Jesus their unseen partner. She gave the women several points to better develop their relationships with Jesus.

Lee Beattie, 18, said she especially liked Mrs. Tkach's talk. "I like the idea of Jesus being our unseen partner," she said.

After the presentations, the women asked questions about women's ministry. This was followed by general discussion and fellowship till well after 11 p.m.

"They were all friendly and humble," said Florence Walker of Ballymena, Northern Ireland. "In the future it will mean a lot more when we read about them or articles from them."
