SPOKANE, Washington--WCG congregations in the Inland Northwest are taking up a challenge to prayer and fasting.
Mission America, Campus Crusade for Christ, the National Association of Evangelicals and others are calling Christians to fasting and prayer.
This spring they are encouraging congregations to cover the 40 days leading up to Easter (or the Lord's Supper).
Christians are encouraged to spend extra time in devotions to God, seeking him with all their hearts.
The call is based on 2 Chronicles 7:14: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their evil ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
Here in Spokane, about 100 churches participated last spring.
Each congregation was invited to have at least one person fasting each day for the 40 days. We made a calendar available and members were invited to sign up if they wished.
We had about 60 people fast over 160 days during that period. Some signed up to miss only one meal because of health problems, others signed up for one day each week.
We need to be involved in what the greater body of Christ is doing. We need to be praying for personal revival and renewal and the revival and renewal of the church (the entire church, not just the Worldwide Church of God) and that God will begin to move in a mighty way throughout our society.
I encourage members to get involved in prayer movements in their areas. I feel that you will not only be warmly received as members of WCG, but you will be greatly strengthened by the devotion of millions of Christians praying together.
