JOPLIN, Missouri--Can 140 women on a tight budget, out in the middle of the sticks, grow closer to God, worship Jesus and have fun at the same time? You bet they can!
A church camp near Joplin was the setting for a two-day retreat March 21 and 22. Women from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri gathered to praise God with traditional, contemporary and old-time country gospel music.
Tammy Tkach and Sheila Graham were the guest speakers from the Worldwide Church of God. Other speakers were Brenda Boyd, pastor of a deaf congregation in Joplin, who spoke about relationships and boundaries; Teri Griffis, wife of a Youths With a Mission minister, who spoke on YWAM's world tour; and Debbie Barnes Miles, a former Miss America, who gave a speech titled, "God's Grace Is Amazing."
Games and door prizes Saturday evening gave everyone a chance to relax and let their hair down. Barnyard sounds under the stars provided a warm, country atmosphere.
Meals were prepared by several male church members, once again proving that men can be good in the kitchen. It was a spiritually uplifting and rejuvenating weekend, and one that will not soon be forgotten.
